The Hurst Fire Department was the first department to break from the traditional "Fire Engine Red" vehicles. Safety and visibility was an important issue and the Chrome Yellow was much more visible than the traditional Fire Engine Red, in the daylight and dark.

Fire Operations consists of 3 shifts of 51 firefighters, who work 48-hour rotations and report to the Assistant Chief. Each shift consists of a Shift Commander, 3 Captains, 3 Driver Engineers and 10 Firefighter/paramedics.
