U.S. President Donald Trump signaled a willingness on Wednesday to settle for $500 million a legal fight with Harvard University over $2.5 billion in funding his administration canceled over accusations it allowed antisemitism and promoted diversity policies.

Columbia University’s acting president Claire Shipman is defending the school’s controversial $200 million settlement with the Trump administration, calling the agreement a “responsible path” to protect academic integrity and restore access to billions in federal research funding.
