MacIntyre mostly went blow for blow against the world’s best player in the third round, shooting 68 to Scheffler’s 67, and by making a 41-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole, he gave himself a four-shot cushion heading into the penultimate Sunday of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and England's Tyrrell Hatton clinched spots on Team Europe's Ryder Cup squad with their weekend performances. MacIntyre jumped from fourth to second on the European Ryder Cup points list -- trailing only Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy -- after claiming second place at the PGA Tour's BMW Championship.
The Scotsman didn't want to comment on what fans said Sunday at Caves Vallery, but he was mostly disappointed in his final-round performance.
With a 3-under 67 in the final round of the BMW Championship, Scheffler prevailed by two strokes over Robert MacIntyre, who was bidding for a wire-to-wire win. Scheffler signed for four red numbers en route to 15-under 265.
