Two days after Aaron Boone had acknowledged the Yankees’ need to tighten up their team defense, they acquired a solid glove to take over at third base in Friday’s trade with the Rockies for Ryan McMahon.

The Yankees have had a need for a third baseman since releasing DJ LeMahieu and moving Jazz Chisholm back to the keystone. As of late, manager Aaron Boone has used a combination of Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas at the hot corner. Clearly New York, now 4 ½ games back in the American League East, was not satisfied with that arrangement.

After years of popping up in rumors, Ryan McMahon has found his way from the Colorado Rockies to the infield-needy New York Yankees ahead of the trade deadline.
