Edmonton claiming Game 1 with a 4-2 doubling of the host Golden Knights was just the third time in six years the Oilers won a playoff series opener at home or away.

In the just-completed first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings, the Edmonton Oilers ran the best roster players on the same line for 75 minutes at five-on-five. The total represented about 65 percent of the overall playing time for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in the game state over the course of the series.

Heading into the third period of Tuesday’s Game 1 matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights, the Edmonton Oilers needed a spark. Sixteen minutes later, Zach Hyman scored the game-winner as he skated into the high slot and fired a bullet that zipped past Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill glove-side — the third of four Oilers’ unanswered goals.
