Governor Abbott and other Texas leaders are giving an update Thursday on the state's response to severe winter weather.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is demanding a Houston-area school district to cut its ties with a Muslim youth sports event because of its ties to a group which he considers a terrorist organization.

In a directive Wednesday issued to a Houston area school district demanding it cancel any planned Islamic Games event, Gov. Greg Abbott blasted the Islamic Council on Foreign Relations (CAIR).

The Texas governor claimed a chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which he has declared a foreign terrorist organization, has sponsored the youth athletic competition. CAIR disputes the claim.

"Texans know all too well that our weather can shift in a matter of minutes," said Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee.

Texas is preparing for the coldest temperatures of the season, and forecasters are warning of possible power outages and icy roads in much of the state.
