One of the reasons Zohran Mamdani ’s smashing victory yesterday created such a sensation is that public polls (overall) did a poor job of predicting the size and shape of both his and Andrew Cuomo ’s coalitions in the Democratic mayoral primary.

Polls largely underestimated Zohran Mamdani’s support in the Democratic primary for the New York City mayor, illustrating once again just how difficult it can be to accurately poll primary elections.

For Cuomo, the mayoral race is a chance at a comeback after he resigned as governor in 2021 over a report from Attorney General Letitia James' office that alleged he sexually harassed multiple female employees and created a toxic working environment. Cuomo has denied the allegations.
