A Mount Sterling man was arrested after he drove to Mount Vernon in an attempt to meet a decoy 14-year-old girl, according to an arrest citation.

Vernon police are warning residents about a phone scam where someone falsely claims to be an officer. Police said in the scam, someone falsely claims to be a Vernon police officer. During the call, officers said the caller says there is an arrest warrant out for the person for missing jury duty.

Less than 24 hours after her arrest in connection with a shooting that killed two and wounded five, charges against Jerria J. Smith, 22, were dismissed without prejudice.
