Hundreds gathered in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, calling for the release of a union leader who was arrested at an immigration enforcement operation last week.

Negotiations over pausing pay raises and other budget-saving measures between the Legislature, Gov. Gavin Newsom and unions are ongoing.

The union representing more than 45,000 grocery store workers from Santa Barbara to San Diego voted Wednesday, June 11 to authorize a strike against supermarket chains Albertsons and Kroger. No date has been set for a strike.
